Let’s Play Arizona Recess Toolkit The Arizona Recess Toolkit was recognized by the Arizona Department of Education and designed with Dr. William S. Hesse and Dr. Chris Lineberry's guidance and contributions along with other outside contributors. It was designed to provide school leadership and teachers with information, guidance, and tools that will make the implementation of the new law easier.
Dr Chris. Lineberry and Dr. William S. Hesse co-authored the Arizona Educational Foundation A+ Application for Sandra Day O'Connor HS (SDOHS) in Phoenix, Arizona incorporating many Healthy Learning Culture Guide principals into the application. This is the first year SDOHS achieved the A+ School of Excellence Award.
Dr. Chris Lineberry leads Stanfield Elementary School to the "Gold" Healthy Arizona Worksites Program Award recognized by the Maricopa County Health Department.
On April 4, 2018, Senate Bill 1083 was signed into law. The law requires all schools that have grades K-5 provide two recess periods per school day. Per the law, recess is defined as “a period of time during the regular school day, including time before or after a scheduled lunch period, during which a pupil is able to engage in physical activity or social interaction with other pupils”.
Two recess periods a day will be mandatory for Arizona's younger students next school year with the passing of this bill. This coalition of advocates were formed by Christine Davis and Scott Turner.
